Sonia Ashe is the Public Interest Advocate for Iowa PIRG. She plans and implements legislative strategy, working regularly with elected officials, the public, and the media. She conducts policy analysis, proposes legislation, rallies public support and unites the efforts of other public interest groups.
Sonia researches and conducts advocacy campaigns on such issues as government transparency, energy, public transportation, tax and budget policy, and healthcare. She regularly appears on radio and television across the state and has been quoted in numerous publications.
After growing up in Des Moines, Sonia graduated from Beloit College in 2007. Prior to joining the Iowa PIRG staff, Sonia was a community organizer for Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement. She also directed a documentary in India on water scarcity with the Institute for Rural Research and Development.
